NOTICE

This notice from the United States Army Corps of Engineers, Wilmington District, Operations Division, serves as notification to all interested parties of proposed upcoming maintenance dredging, subject to the availability of funds, within the Federally maintained waterways of North Carolina. Additional details of and specific plans detailing each project are available for viewing, printing, or download at http://www.saw.usace.army.mil/nav. As with all email attachments, be sure to check for viruses prior to opening the attachment. The current notice involves:

1. Military Ocean Terminal at Sunny Point (MOTSU) Maintenance Dredging

(a) Estimated amount: Approx 1,600,000 cubic yards

(b) Contract award date: March 22, 2005

(c) Start work: April 15, 2005

(d) Estimated complete work: August 16, 2005

(e) Type dredge: Bucket & Barge

(f) Disposal: ODMDS

(g) Contractor: Unknown until award date

(h) Environmental Window: None

(i) Contract number: Assigned at award of contract

2. Wilmington Harbor (Ocean Bar)

  1. (a) Estimated amount: Approximately 1,200, 000 cubic yards

(b) Contract award date: November 8, 2004

(c) Start Work: January 1, 2005

(d) Estimated Complete work: March 31, 2005

(e) Type of Dredge: Ocean-Certified trailing suction hopper dredge

(f) Disposal: Former Wilmington Harbor Ocean Bar channel alignment

(g) Contractor: Manson Construction Company

(h) Environmental Window: January 1, 2005 through March 31, 2005

3. Morehead City Harbor (Ocean Bar) Maintenance Dredging

  1. (a) Estimated Amount: Approximately 1,000,000 cubic yards
  2. (b) Contract award date: November 8, 2004

  4. (d) Estimated Complete Work: March 31, 2005
  5. (e) Type Dredge: Ocean-certified trailing suction hopper dredge

4. Morehead City Inner Harbor, Brandt Island Pump-out, Beaufort Harbor,

Ft. Macon Maintenance Dredging. Originally advertised by Public Notice on July 6, 2004. Revision: Ft Macon USCG Basin dredged material disposal will not be on oceanfront beach but will go to ODMDS. Work done by mechanical dredge.

(a) Estimated Amount: Approximately 3,899,000 cubic yards

(b) Contract Award Date: September 14, 2004

(c) Start Work: November 1, 2004

(d) Estimated Complete Work: April 30, 2005

(e) Type of Dredge: Hydraulic Pipeline Dredge

(f) Disposal: Bogue Banks Beaches (Ft Macon, Atlantic Beach, Pine Knoll Shores)

(g) Contractor: Unknown until award date

(h) Environmental Window: November 1 to April 30 (i) Contract Number: Assigned at award of Contract

5. Channel to Wanchese

(a) Estimated amount: 350,000 cubic yards

(b) Contract award date: September 30, 2004

(c) Start work: January 25, 2005

(d) Estimated complete work: March 31, 2005

(e) Type dredge: Pipeline

(f) Disposal: Islands D, Parnell, and State disposal area near Wanchese

(g) Contractor: Southern Dredging

(h) Environmental Window: Placement of material on control-of-effluent islands (Parnell Island and Island D) from September 1 to March 31.

(i) Contract number: Assigned at award of contract

6. Military AIWW, Bear to Brown Inlet, Onlsow County

(a) Estimated Amount: Approximately 65,000 cubic yards

(b) Contract Award Date: February 15, 2005

(c) Start Work: March 15, 2005

(d) Estimated Complete Work: April 30, 2005

(e) Type of Dredge: Hydraulic Pipeline

(f) Disposal: Onslow Beach (Camp Lejeune)

(g) Contractor: Unknown until award date

(h) Environmental Window: Sea turtle nesting season begins May 1

(i) Contract Number: Assigned at award of Contract

7. Manteo (Shallowbag Bay) Outer Ocean Bar

(a) Estimated amount: 150,000

(b) Contract award date: March 1, 2005

(c) Start work: March 5, 2005

(d) Estimated complete work: May 31, 2005

(e) Type Dredge: Hopper

(f) Disposal: Nearshore Disposal Site

(g) Contractor: Unknown until award date

(h) Environmental Window: None.

(i) Contract number: Assigned at award of contract

8. Cape Fear River, Locks and Dams

(a) Proposed Work: minor dredging at downstream opening of lock to allow equipment to access lock doors for repairs. Lock 1 work will be completed prior to start work at Lock 2, which will be completed before start work at Lock 3. Approximately 4,000 CY dredged at Lock 1, Lock 2 approximately + 4,000 CY

(b) Contract Award Date: November 2004

(c) Start Work: January 2005

(d) Estimated Complete Work: Dredge by February 28, 2005

(e) Type of Dredge: Wilmington District Corps of Engineers dredge vessel Snell will undertake any necessary dredging, placing material on bank of River or on high ground disposal area, in addition to assisting divers with quoin repair.

(f) Contractor: N/A

(h) Environmental Window: Dredging will be completed no later than mid-February

(i) Contract Number: N/A
