I have been down in Florida fishing, so this report is not as specific to local catches. I did go out for a few hours yesterday and did more scouting than casting. We had a full moon and it was dead low tide, perfect conditions. This is great time to go out and look for bottom structure, otherwise not seen during a regular low tide.

I took along the camera and photographed several newly discovered oyster reefs that should hold fish when flooded. I have been interested in finding more of these sub-tidal oysters reefs. The are rarely exposed, only during spring tides/full moons and they are favorite haunts of trout and drum.

Another area I noted duriing the extreme low tide, were newly exposed sandbars and points. I marked these on GPS and will return their this spring and summer for flounder.

It was a productive day of R & D on the water. The salt marsh is a very dynamic habitat. Scouting helps you keep with the pace and will pay dividends later.
