Both July and August were similar for both being very good times to fish. Despite the heat, wind, idiots on jet skis, and frequency of afternoon thunderstorms, I consistantly hauled in nice flounder, black drum, croaker, spots, and trout. It seems water temps were overall a bit cooler than last summer. I never saw water temps in the creeks go above 88, even on the ebb tide.
There has been some suprises; like, several small cobia caught in Little River salt creeks. Lately, I have been moving operations upstream towards darker, less saline waters to gear up for the trout migration, striped bass, and big flounder. Also, will be focusing on the big reds along LR jetties.
A reminder to check the SCDNR websites for updated Fish Advisories. Mercury content is exceptionally high in our state; especially in fresh water systems. Remember, the bigger the fish the more potential for chemical poisoning, so think twice before eating trophy fish.
