In 2009, Rep. John Mica introduced H.R. 3307, which if passed and amended to MSA, would allow the South Atlantic regional fishery management council sufficient time to seek additional, ‘all available’ science regarding any fishery before any closure can be implemented. Together with S 1255 and HR 1584, congressional intervention is possible, and fishermen can get the representation we’ve long fought to secure. But democracy is not a spectator sport – and once-in-a-lifetime doesn’t come around very often.

111th CONGRESS

1st Session

H. R. 3307
To direct the Secretary of Commerce to conduct a study of the population of the South Atlantic red snapper fishery, and to limit the authority of the Secretary to promulgate any interim rule that prohibits fishing in the South Atlantic red snapper fishery.
