Headed to Hatteras for the weekend with a good friend and figured we'd try our luck since we had heard they had been crushing the Dolphin. Pulled out of Teach's Lair in Hatteras Village Sunday morning and heading through the inlet. Beautiful weather, less than 1 foot seas and 5 knot winds. Headed towards the tower and found a thick loooong weed line, and nothing. So we made our way over closer to the tower and found another small tick patch, bam, fish on. One Mahi in the boat, skunk is out. Then another and another, all with in 30 yards, nice fat school. But then the AJ's showed up(kept a couple for friends) and we were getting triple headers so we pulled up and headed south were some reports of blue marlin were. About lunch time we found the fleet had figured this out too and we all were in a 1-1 1/2 square mile. No marlin for us but a few more Mahi. Round 2pm the wind picked up and we deceided to head in and grab some late lunch and a few beers. Overall, not a bad day, but the Mahi def. weren't as thick as they were Fri. & Sat. Alot of longliners out, averaging 25-30 boxes a day till Sat. but small size (6-8 lbs. ) back to Southport Monday.
