| I've got a 17 foot center console which I plan on fishing up to10-12 miles out, obviously on good days. I'm considering gunwale flush mounted outriggers perhaps 15 feet long, In my past have had t-top boats with out riggers mounted on top but also went to the stream with same. I considered them a necessity out there. Some say they are a waste of time in close. Any opinions welcomed. Thanks. |

| I've had a Scout 172sf center console since "98 and have often fished it up to 20+ miles out on good weather days. Personally think the outriggers are unneccessary on a boat that size....think about maneuverability and your walking around the boat and up and down the gunwales while hooked-up!! Just my opinion, but considering the cost of outriggers...you may spend that money on other needed equipment. Hope this helps. Now on my 28-footer I love them! |

I never fish without using my outriggers. I couldn't imagine being out there without them. _________________ CHICKMASTER Fishing Team

I'd like to play devil and say they are not necessary in close but first let me ask, what are you targeting in 10-12 to want outriggers? I'd do downriggers before outriggers in that area, just my opinion. _________________ *If u r fishing with me...theres NO BITCHIN, JUST FISHIN!*

In my opinion rod holders on the side of your tee top at the rear coupled with a good 7' or 8' rod works just as good as outriggers. They don't get in the way, cost less, and less maintenance. Just be sure to clip the rods to the tee top so they don't end up in the water. _________________ \"A Bad Day Fishing Beats a Good Day At Work\" |

Gents,
Thanks for the thoughts. Decided to go with them because the boat is so small having a line out on the tip of an outrigger may help when it comes to keeping those two clear when another line hooks up. |

Good choice!! Besides, with gunnel mounts, you can leave them home if you don't need them. _________________ Capt. Brent Stanley
