I already searched the forums and found lots of good info, but nothing really specific

What is your favorite lure for Wahoo, and how fast do you pull them.

I just recently caught my first and am determined to catch more of those delicious critters, so any help is greatly appreciated.

My wahoo bit a pink Bluewater Candy dolphin weenie with a sguid on it, but that was purely luck. I plan on setting up 2 rods with just wahoo setups to pull a little faster (10-12 kts) while searching for weedlines and other places the Mahi hang out.

Thanks,
Rick Lentz

Thaks for the responses, I am definitely gonna get some of the Yozuris, since I have heard nothing but good about them.

I'm still pretty lousy at rigging ballyhoo, so im gonna have to practice with them before I try the pirate plugs.

You'd be hard pressed to find an easier lure to rig a ballyhoo on than a pirate plug. Great lures made by a great guy!

Even I can rig a ballyhoo that swims good on a Pirate Plug.
It's really simple and I think bob has a video on rigging a ballyhoo on the site

Congratulations on your first Wahoo. I'm please it was on a BWC product but I agree you were a bit fortunate to land it on a Dolphin Weenie since they're on 80# MONO.

We have several good products made for wahoo rigged on #9 wire. Jags and 1 ounce witches. purple/black, red/black/ blue/white are my favorites.

We also make a larger version of the dolphin weenie called the Wahini which isn't in stores pre rigged but we have naked wire rigs in the stores that would work great with it.

Up your way Neuse SS, Dudley's, EJW, Reel OUTdoors and Chasin Tails should have these in stock. If you are an internet purchaser they are on TackleMonkey.com.

If I can help email me.

CMF by Ocean City Lures is the damndest Wahoo lure I have ever pulled. I usually pull it on the planer but it is nasty anywhere you pull it.

The most effective one for me has been a Blue-Headed Blue/White Islander with medium ballyhoo, but then I don't get to go wahoo fishing much.

a horse ballyhoo (naked) on a Chin Weight is a safe bet also.
Proof's in the puddin'...here's the puddin'

I also REALLY like an 11/0 Chin Weight with a spanish mackerel (naked) and a 9/0 or 10/0 stinger hook

Everybody says dark, specifically black and purple, but I've caught more on chartreuse than any other color.

I'm old school, love sea witches with ballyhoo. Also BWC, illanders, black barts, and naked ballyhoo.

" Huff Super Stinger rig "
Really cuts down all short strikes and is deadly on Wahoo. Very easy to rig with ballyhoo. The jig hook goes up through the bottom of the jaw and the stinger hook through the bottom of the belly.

Like to run one a hundred yards back and another 2 on downriggers with planers. Troll 5-7 knots

I do have them available for sale fully rigged and made right here in North Carolina. Red/Black, Purple/Black, Blue/White, Dolphin and other colors available. Rigged with 135lb 1x7 surlon,
Please send me a PM if interested.

Recent Wahoo caught on the " Huff Super Stinger rig ". It's the stinger that hooked him. Dramatically cuts down on the short strikes.

best way i've found to rig a ballyhoo is on youtube. Just type in how to rig a skipping ballyhoo. Real easy. Just make sure you use the ballyhoo copper wire. You can use 40# wire for king rigs in a pinch, but tis real hard. Stupid easy to rig ballyhoo this way.

IMHO- Barefoot Chin Weight. Silly easy to rig and swims like mother nature made it! You tube the video on how to rig it with the stiff rig stinger. Once it's set-up it doesn't get much easier.

You will most likely have to use some kind of high speed lure like a ballyhood or a HooDoo if you are planning to run them at 12kts. Ballyhoo won't last long at all if you run them that fast. Also I have one of the 13" Yozuri Bonitas that I love also but it too only runs good up to certain speeds.
