I am trying to purchase one of those "Star Board" wedges to go under my radome to help level it when I'm under way, because by boat runs pretty "bow proud". I have found lots of them for sale on the net, but can't determine which one is the right one. I have a Furuno 1830 radar with a 24", 3Kw radome. I located one on the Boatersworld site that claims to fit Furuno radomes, but it also says that it will fit most other 18" radomes. Since mine is NOT an 18" radome, I am scheptical of this one. I have tried emailing several retailers to try to determine which one is right, but so far no one has replied. It's been about 3 weeks, so I'm about to give up. I did call one retailer (can't remember which one) and was told "if it's not the right one, you can send it back." I don't want any part of that. I want to buy the right one the first time. I live 4 hours from my boat and don't want to go there, remove the radome and wiring and find that I have the wrong wedge and have to put everything back together again.

Does anyone know which wedge is the right one and if so, where to buy it?

Many thanks!

Gary, check these guys out. They carry Furuno, they may have it. They are pretty close to Little River. Between Sunset and Ocean Isle right on 179.

Awesome! I have not been there, but someone...I think it was Dave asked me about them. I'll have to give them a call.

Even if they don't have that wedge, it's probably worth checking the store out.

You never know what else you just can't live without until you see it. Ha ha ha

Well, I tried calling the GPS Store today. The voice mail said that I had reached them after their regular business hours of 9:00 to 5:00 which I have not. wawa It is 12:54 on Saturday afternoon. Maybe they are not opened on the weekends. Confused

Anyway, I searched their web site and it appears that they do not carry the wedges. I emailed them anyway just to make sure.

I don't know why it's so difficult to find the right one. I have a very common size radome. Lots of places carry these wedges. I just don't think it's too much to ask for to be able to order the correct size the first time. I'm getting frustrated....

Gary, you did a good job on those rod holders in the cockpit out of Starboard. Why not just figure out how thick the wedge needs to be at the back compared to the front and make one yourself again? After seeing that boat running and being on it, Id guess its gotta be at least 3" on the back to try to level it out.

If youre headed down either weeknd for the 4th I think theyll be plenty of people aroudn to watch you work on it and drink beer. Ill be one of them. I was gonan say GPS Store too, but they beat me to it. They can get things not listed on their website and have the best prices anywhere. They do a huge internet and phone sales, so they were probably just busy when you called. Later and good luck.

Hey Evan!

Yeah...I was pretty happy with the rod holders too, and I have considered making a wedge, but for one thing, I'm not sure where to get Starboard that thick, and even if I could, I don't have the bolt hole pattern, so that would mean dissassembling the whole thing one one trip, making a template, putting it all back together, coming home, buying the Starboard, and making the wedge. Then on another trip back down there, I'd have to dissassemble everything again and install the wedge and hope that I'd done a good job with the bolt holes and making sure that the angled cut that makes the wedge was very straight or I might not get a good seal and then I'd have water leaking through it and into the radio box, so if I can find the right one for sale, I'll spend a few extra bucks and buy it.

l I think you've figured out, I am not down there this weekend, but will be next weekend. Connie and the boys are spending the weekend on the boat, but not leaving the slip...thank heaven! They are just going to go to the beach etc. I have to work all weekend and didn't get to go.

Hopefully, I'll see you next weekend.

OK...I finally figured it out. I sent lots of emails and made lots of calls trying to find the right wedge. Ultimately, I ended up where I probably should have been in the first place. I had been trying to contact people that were selling the wedges, but ended up contacting the manufacturer and got the following reply:

"Hi Gary, the RW4-2 fits the Furuno 4 kw dome. Sorry but there was a little
confusion when those catalogs were published very early on when we developed
them. List price 129.00 Thank you for your inquiry!

I am posting this in case anyone else finds themselves looking for the same wedge. NO ONE online that I could find had the correct info on that wedge. It lists Furuno no where in the description, but according to the manufacturer, it's the right one. I'm going to order one ASAP.
