No Flash....Chome (Their browser)....SUCKS....Supermap only works if you download the Firefox browser for it....some sites are real quirky....but overall it is a pretty cool toy. No way it would EVER replace my PC though.

I meant to ask you during your tackle show seminar when SuperMap would be Ipad-able....I will try it out ASAP! |

Good thread I'm in the same market.
So far we have reviews for I-pad1 and 2, Kindle Fire, Toshiba, Motorola Xoom, and ASUS.
How about the VIZIO from Sam's for like $279?
I have never owned a laptop and don't have a wireless router-- yet.
So if you're buying your first either laptop or tablet, is tablet the way to go?
All I want is to be able to do is surf away from my desk but especially when I travel out of town, not familiar with wifi. Especially intersted in using the Navionics App for mapping. Thanks! |

The tablet is a great tool to have, but will not replace your computer for work. I am all in for this Acer tablet that I have. A great tool for accessing your work documents on the fly and making minor corrections. $399.00 at staples.....The Ipad was free. _________________ Captain Mick

Amazon Prime is great and you get 30 days free if you didn't know. A free app a day plus streaming movies and a free book download a month. However, you can't download anything until you register with Amazon. If you don't use Amazon and don't want to enter a CC number, (even though you won't be billed but to protect the CC), then get a VISA gift card for maybe 5 or 10 bucks and enter that. It'll work for the apps but not for ordering stuff. |

| Thanks dekeoy. I figured for $150 I couldn't go wrong, that sale runs through Tuesday. Yes I see the 1 month free Prime membership, that is pretty darn cool. Pulled up a movie on it last night in 30 seconds. Does that Prime work only for the Kindle or can pull it up from any PC? |

Works on any PC as long as you sign into the Amazon Website. Get you a "Roku" or something similar, and you can watch the movies on your TV also. Only thing to remember is only 2 movies at one time. In other words, the Kindle and PC but not TV or the TV and PC but not Kindle. We haven't had a problem here, It all works. We got rid of Netflix awhile back and are very happy! |

Greetings to all, I purchased a Asus Prime yesterday and i am currently testing it out. So far it seems to be doing okay. Fairly easy to use and set up. Ofcoarse I it will take several weeks to get a good idea of how well it really performs. I will keep you update on how things go. _________________ Larry R.

Sooooo........I got her the Ipad II. My company has a discount program with Apple, so I got it just over $400.00. It's a pretty darn neat machine....but seems a little slow on the internet for my likings.
Now it's MY turn. I'm thinking of the Toshiba Thrive....I like the idea of the ports like Shane said. It has tons of good reviews as well. Also looking at the new Kindle Fire, mostly because of the price. $200 VS $400.
Is there $200.00 worth of difference??? Primary use will be the internet. _________________ Bite Me!

I have had my ASUS Prime for a month now and I am 100% satisfied. It is Wi-Fi only but this is okay with me because I have a MiFi mobile hot spot for connectivity. I have been using it for work to VPN into servers and its been great. Android also has a nice app called SplashTop that allows me to use my home computer remotely with the tablet! The GPS is terrible though and is almost useless. So if you are looking for something to navigate with keep looking. I am not anti apple either. I have an iPhone and love it. _________________ Larry R.

Think I've made up my mind with the Fire as well. Found one 2 weeks old on CL for 150.00 with a hard case to put it in. If I don't like it, I'll dip it in concrete and have an extra anchor for my pond boat and go buy the Toshiba. _________________ Bite Me!

| Don't have that problem with mine doing that, all sites load about the same. Do you have a strong wifi signal? |

The iNavX app allows you to use NOAA charts and Navionics charts. It also will allow you to use Hilton's charts (SST, chlorophyll, etc.) with GPS position plotted, which is pretty darn neat. |
Really? How does that work? You would have to have cell signal right? Not for off shore? |

You need a signal to download the charts, but once they are downloaded you can use them regardless of cell connection. GPS connection works everywhere. I usually download the charts I need in the AM before we go offshore. _________________ Taylor Griffin |
