I do but when it takes em 2 hours to get there and you have a charter on the boat you can't sit and wait. Yes I have taken pics and turned them over but nothing has ever come of it. If a fish is supposed to be an accidental catch or non targeted (reds in particular)and they claim they dont make much off of it what is the problem. I made 3 calls on fishing violations last year. 2 on recs and 1 on a comm. nothing happened with any of them. I also made 5 calls to Mr Kelly about illegal charters and nothing came of them either after some big talk at the for hire meeting by him. NCDMF is either understaffed or they don't care. I am sick of non-enforcement. I say let wildlife have it all because DMF is broken. On the other side of the coin i called wildlife twice (injured birds on the beach and an injured deer) and Officer Doug Jones was there in (no bull) 10 minutes on the first one and 35 minutes on the second. _________________ Lets save some for the kiddies!!!!!!!!!

As long as a commercial has equal or more of weight of other species (not menhaden) when landing. possessing and selling red drum, then they are legal. The "non-target", "accidental" is not in the regs.
Not an LEO, but guessing hard to arrest and convict on hearsay. I know it's frustrating.
When WRC LEO can get there that quickly, either fortunate close by or maybe they didn't have a lot to do that day. _________________ The older I get, the better I wuz. |

Why game fish for just red drum, striped bass and trout? What is the driving force behind the decision to focus on these three fish only?
Why not flounder or mackeral or or bluefish or black drum or... I thought I read that flounder was the number one species targeted by recs, so wouldn't it make more sense to include flounder?
. |
If this is true why wasn't flounder also considered? |

There are many environmental "charities" that are doing the same thing as the cca on a much larger scale. They are trying to create problems in order to advance other agendas. We need to be aware of what is happening or we are all going to lose our FREEDOM TO FISH. Charitable bureaucracies like Oceana (West Marine is a big supporter) are pushing to list Sturgeon, White Marlin, Blue Fin Tuna, Warsaw Grouper, and Speckled Hind as endangered species in order to close large areas to ALL fishing. They want to make 10% of the earth's most productive coastal waters off limits to fishermen. Listing the White Marlin or Blue Fin Tuna as endangered would lead to bans on trolling in areas they MIGHT be. The Sturgeon listing could also lead to bans on fishing inshore areas where they MIGHT live. The Warsaw Grouper and Speckled Hind listing will lead to large closures like the one in Amendment 17B. We are still waiting to get our freedom to bottom fish beyond 40 fathoms after NOAA, NMFS, and the SAFMC used the Precautionary Principal straight out of UN Agenda 21 to take it away. This set a terrible precedent that will allow them to close almost any area based on nothing more than the lack of data. The Endangered Species Act gives them even more power to take away more of our freedom to fish and feed ourselves.
It is time for us to unite and stop bickering about this STUPID "game fish" bill that has divided us during a time we need to be standing united. The Fishermen's Rally next week is designed to show solidarity between the sectors. Please consider the hypocrisy if you are a supporter of HB-353 and plan on going to that rally.
Some may not think FREEDOM is important. I could not DISAGREE MORE! FREEDOM is paramount. Look at nations without much of it. The rich rulers are the ones that get to play with the fish and game. The commercial fishermen are little more than slaves in many cases on factor ships that overfish for months at a time without regard for protecting fisheries for the future. We will become more dependent on those foreign fleets for our supply of seafood as we lose more of our freedom to responsibly harvest American seafood. We should be boycotting seafood from nations that do things like finning sharks rather than supporting them while punishing American fishermen. |
