went to try NRI today to try and pick up some blues. Had some dead finger mullet and live mud minnows on bottom rigs and couldn't get a bite. The guys 10 yards away from me were pulling in the blues on live mullet on the same rigs as me for about an hour straight. I mostly fish offshore, but have never seen a blue get picky about live, dead, or specific bait. could it have been that they were only biting in that one little spot. by the way i tried to fish down current of them too and got the same results. _________________ Kencraft Challenger 250 |

Could there have been some structure holding bait? Never heard of blues ever being picky. _________________ No Regrets

We were right at the mouth of the inlet. between where i was fishing and they were has the same exact bottom. I used to fish there all the time before I was blessed with a boat. Coulda been an eddy trapping bait or giving them some calmer water there is all i can think of. _________________ Kencraft Challenger 250 |

A few suggestions for you to consider.......
Did you try cutting of the tail of your dead baits to add scent? Were you both using wire leader ? And what hook size & type ?
Prefer a Carolina rig to roll in the current over a stationary Fish Finder rig. Like a short ( 3" to 5" ) 60# mono leader.......
When all else fails throw top waters or metal, just keep them moving.
Hope this helps ....... ICM _________________ Cape Fear Anglers.

They were only biting in that one little spot. I found the blues and spanish suspended over two ledges I marked Thursday and another ledge I marked Saturday. We had a spread of yo zuris and spoons on planers and every time our spred crossed the ledges lines went off. Caught about 100 blues, 2 bonita and 15 spanish. I trolled it for about 3 hours and I started getting a little company but no one jumped my pattern so that was good. After I left to fish some bottom elsewhere I was going thru NRI toward home and noticed 4 boats "near" the ledges where we caught fish. Don't know that they were actually able to find the fish though. I don't think type of bait mattered...the fish were holding like bass and being opportunistic. _________________ Matador
