FPT's,
The bar at bogue inlet is pretty shallow these days. If you are heading out when you get to the last Green Can you need to head towards the west or to the right. You will see the bar stretching across and to the right it becomes a little deeper.
Be careful, hopefully you can follow someone out.

Take care,
Captain Jamey Copeland

Jamey, has Joe Webb , Lee. Donald or anybody with a big boat gone out lately ? We are moving the Hot Tuna to Dudley's next week and I don't want to be the first one to get beached.

Yeah,
Joe Webb has gone out, and Bob Townsend. I am not sure how much the HT draws, but if you catch a high tide and offshore wind you should be okay. Its 'shoaly' from the RED and GREEN as you make your entrance, it is bad towards the RED. Stay to the Green side. I think the swell is going to subside towards mid week. I think Saturday is 2-3.
Take care,

Bogue is geting pretty narrow and they are moving the cans. room enough for two boats to pass in some places and hairy in others. Lots of boats anchored up and fishing in the middle of the channel.

Shoaling Reported in Bogue Inlet Channel
EMERALD ISLE, NC - The aids to navigation in Bogue Inlet, NC, may be unreliable due to recent shoaling that is encroaching into the channel.

Water depths may be less than three feet in the vicinity of buoys one and two in Bogue Inlet.

These depths pose a hazard to navigation, and boaters are reminded to exercise extreme caution when transiting the area.

Dave I was just wondering where you got this info.? I talked with Stanman yesterday and again today. He went out bogue inlet Mon. and Wed. and reports that the inlet is in better shape and better marked than it has been in years. ?? I can't say either way 'cause I've not been out bogue in the last three or four weeks.
I know that Walter Jones' office was called with complains about the lack of markings, etc. inlite of the recent boats that capsized. And well the ball rolls down hill if you know what I mean.

was that an Aids to Navigation that you were quoting, what was the date of it?

As of 6/28/10, bouys were deployed, some relocated and all are on Station as of that date.

Received a call from the new Officer on the morning of 8/2 who requested that after navigating the inlet to let him know if there was any more that he could do.

The call to Congressman Jones on 6/27 received immediate action. Made 2 trips on 8/2 and 8/4, all bouys are on Station. The Inlet has not been marked this well in years.

COE says it's shoaling up and be careful - heck that's the case for ALL shallow draft inlets. Then experienced boaters say bogue inlet is in the best shape it has been in years.
Sounds like the right hand don't know what the left hand is doing
Stan sounds like a few more calls are needed maybe ?????
