The King Mackerel bite has really picked up with lots of fish being caught within 10nm of the beach. Hard and live bottom areas are holding tons of Sardines and Cigar minnows and the Kings are there feasting. I ran charters this past Thurday, Friday and Saturday and left the fish biting all three days. The majority of the fish were small to teenagers, but I did manage to get one Thursday in the upper 20's (pushing 30) on the 30lb boga grip.
I was trolling about 4-5 knots with ballyhoo, squid and drone spoons, though I am sure the live baiters were doing well also.
There are a few small Dolphin mixed in as well, but that bite has seemed to slack off a bit.
Sailfish are the other big hitters lately with more and more being caught and released. Congratulation to Brett Howell on the "Press on regardless" and Capt. Robby Wolf of the "Whipsaw" for Sailfish releases this past week.
Inshore, the Redfish bite has been good up in the skinny water and around docks and piers. Flounder are picking up and the fish are getting bigger. The nearshore Flounder bite should start going off any day now. Plenty of Spanish Mackerel are close to the beach and should keep you busy for a couple of hours in the mornings and afternoons.
I am taking the coming weekend off to chase a Sail for my sweetie for her B'day, so wish me luck!!!
