Did not see as many blues this past weekend in the surf, although strong NE winds made the fishing more difficult. Once winds switched back to SE, the whiting and pompano bite turned on. Good size whiting hit on mullet strips and cut shrimp, while the pompano (1-3lbs.) hit on freshly dug sand fleas. Both were on the peak high to ebb tides. Look for the areas of beach where the high tide pools drain to form channels or runnels. These areas always outfish the smooth, featureless areas of sand. During the peak high to ebb tide the water moves quickest out these runnels drawing bait and predators to follow. Capt. Michael Rutenberg Coastal Eco-Charters http://www.coastalecocharters.com
