FYI there is a new style inlet survey in color which is pretty cool. The link to the new survey dated Dec 11, 2009 is below -
http://www.saw.usace.army.mil/nav/INLETS/Topsail/topsailinlet.pdf
Talked to Steve Lyons at the Coast Guard in Morehead today about the missing buoys and getting these 5 markers back in place. He called me back and said if all goes well they will temporarily mark the channel next week with the small boat, and then get the buoy tender in the inlet the middle part of February.
Hope this helps everyone that runs the inlet.

Thanks for the link. If Riches Inlet were legal to navigate it would be the superior inlet. The only reason they won't make it navigable is because of the blockade runner. Otherwise, it is a better and shorter run to the ICW or ocean IMHO. _________________ Captainmark |

The below was received from Roger Bullock at the Army Corps this morning in a reply to my email to him concerning incorrect buoy gps numbers and no nuns or cans seaward of the bar.
"We had our sidecast dredge in operation in Topsail but had to pull out due to deteriorating mooring pilings at our dock. Our Debris boat Snell will be in the area to address the moorings shortly and you should see our dredge back in the area. We will be sending our survey party there as well. Your information helps us to focus our efforts. Tom and Howard will take a look at the survey at hand and square away any concerns. We hope Mother Nature helps us a little more this year compared to last on Topsail. _________________ SeaHunter 35 CC

The surveys are complete at mean low water.
There is an updated buoy location chart on the survey now. Some of the buoys were incorrect. _________________ SeaHunter 35 CC

Do you know what happened with it?? Its only showing the depths more on the ocean side, than inland.. _________________ **For Sale**

The survey has been updated on 1/27 and buoys 8 and 6A have been restored. Hopefully there will be more updates soon. _________________ SeaHunter 35 CC

Information update concerning the buoys from the USCG today
BAYBERRY's TANB was in Topsail Inlet this past Tuesday and documented water depths. The wind and swell in the inlet since then has not been favorable for the TANB to operate safely. The BAYBERRY will be in Wilmington for the Azalea Festival this weekend. BAYBERRY will load on Monday and be in the Topsail Inlet area Tuesday with the TANB. The Chief plans to remain until the buoys are set. Due to available water depths, the cutter will be able to operate in the inlet and Banks Channel at high tide only. _________________ SeaHunter 35 CC

We went out on Friday and again on Tuesday 2 hours before low tide both times on the way out, and had 2 feet below the boat. Hit the skegs twice and had to trim way up to get out and we were on the track of the new inlet survey centerline. Where we crossed the bar there was no white water and it looked ok, but it was pretty scary on the way out. We kept zig zagging looking for deeper water and never found it crossing the bar. _________________ SeaHunter 35 CC

On Tuesday we came in through New River, and it was a breeze. Just had to look hard for the markers as I had never run it before. I called Sea Tow before coming in and they were able to confirm that all of the buoys were in the right locations. The most shallow water we had was 9 feet and we were 2 hours before low tide. Just a long run back to Hampstead in the ditch and had to crawl under the Surf City swing bridge with the antennas down and a person on the gunwales to make sure we cleared ok.
Topsail is really bad right now and would only recommend transit at high tide. _________________ SeaHunter 35 CC
