It's official, the specks are here!!! Nice ones too.

This past weekend I had the pleasure of being a guide in the Cape Fear Red-Trout Tournament to benefit Cystic Fibrosis. I had planned on pre-fishing for two days prior to locate some fish, but ole Murphy jumped on my back first thing Wednesday morning and I lost my tilt/trim before I even go started. I want to send a plug out to Tim and the guys at Johnson Marine service who had me back up and running by 11:00 a.m Thursday morning which allowed me to get 4 hours of pre-fishing in before the captains meeting. Thanks guys.

Well, as most of you know, the weather sucked, but we mananaged to get on a decent trout bite first thing Friday morning and a couple more Saturday morning in the gale, which allowed us to tie for 9th place out of 23 boats. Not bad having two anglers who had never fished for reds or specks before. In addition, we caught lots of flounder and a few small reds as well.

As for bait, the specks where piling on both a white 3"gulp shrimp and a white 5"jerk shad fished on a 3/8oz jig head. Also, while pre-fishing, I caught some really nice specks on the new clown colored Rapala X-rap jerk bait. I highly recommend getting some of these new x-raps if you want to catch some nice specks. Go see Capt. Lewis or Capt. Lloyd at Bug em Bait and they will hook you up.

I will try to get the pics added later this evening!!!

Tight lines!!!

Heres a couple from last night's topwater action!!
