To those of you who dared to go out of Drum last year, be CAREFULL. The route we took last year is GONE. Got to find a new one.

I learned my lesson last year. I'll take the long way.

Those breakers were BIG Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning. I would love to see some jetties there, would be a short run from my parent's front yard. Caught some nice drum off the dock on cut shrimp even with 20kt winds Saturday.

Went up that way (Drum Inlet) today with a friend from Harkers to do some "recon" to see if I could get out of it. The inlet is not marked so if you don't have a proven route (which I had?) it could be trouble. It did NOT look good today...things have certainly changed from last year. The old route ain't there now.
I will go back to using Beaufort inlet.. I think I had rather cross the shoals in the dark.?
What's up with the inlets around here anyway?

David there may be a way out Drum, but couldn't find it Sat. on a 23' carolina skiff and didn't want to keep trying on that boat.
If we have to run back to another inlet we'll just have to dig a little deeper to pay for the gas. Rather do that than put us in danger.
The "old" route has shoaled up bad in a couple of places, water got real skinny..
I'll call you tonight and give you details.

Jamie;
that's the whole problem. getting to the inlet.. Once you get to the breakers it's a mattter of "reading" the water, but you've got to get to that point. From what I have found if you need two foot of water or more to go then you could have a problem. On my Sea-Pro (Bout Time) I think I could do it, but on the Amanda Gail I'm not so sure.
In the past we have gotten out and pushed her off a bar, ha ha - don't want to have to do that this year.
