I hope that everyone was able to get out this weekend and do some fishing because the weather was absolutely perfect.
I went out Sunday searching for more redfish. The recent cold weather had caused the water temps in the shallow waters to fall drastically and the fish showed it. I was able to locate some fish, but getting them to bite was a different story. I really had to fish my bait really, really slow to get them to bite.
Again, my bait of choice in the winter is the skimmer jig (check out the tips and trick section of current adventure charters.com for more on this bait). I literally had to bounce it and then let it sit on the bottom in order to get a bite. I knew the fish were there because I could see them, but they didn't want to eat.
Persistance paid off and I ended up with 5 redfish and a speckled trout. Hopefully, we will get some more warm weather to warm the water back up and get the fish a little more active.
