I'm heading to Bald Head Island in 2 weeks to surf fish for reds. I certainly will try catching fresh bait with a net but wondering if anyone knows of a good location in the surrounding Southport area for fresh bait I can purchase?
Thank you. |

Call the tackle box 866-395-fish. They do not advertise live bait and I've never used them, but they are in Southport.
I usually cast for shrimp and mullet first and have never been disappointed. But my understanding is that BH Isle has a good supply of sand fleas on the surf which, when fresh, are great for reds, black drums, and sheephead. And as I'm sure you know, shrimp are great for all of the other surf fish. _________________ http://www.ncfishing.net

| i might be late on the response, but you should be able to catch plenty of mullet still along the wall there at the entrence to BHI marina if need be. |
