|

This story about Eric, Danny, Joe, and two young boys nine and ten years old going on a fishing trip has touched a lot of people. The outcome was good, but yet very sad since Joe did not survive. For that we have sent our thoughts and prayers to all of the families. What a great job the people did that rescued them, how lucky we are to have them when things go bad.
Eric has since retrieved the boat with mixed emotions of what to do with it. I might suggest saving that bow rail as it sounds like it saved their lives. The only fishing tackle saved was Joe’s (the deceased) rod and reel which now hangs in a trophy room.
I don’t know them personally, and with the blessing from the FPT staff, I’m starting this thread to kick-off a donation effort to Eric, Danny, and the two young boys in memory of Joe so we may help restock their fishing gear so they can fish another day. You may have something used or new that you may want to give or perhaps send a gift certificate from a FPT sponsor. You may offer a fishing trip or just send Eric some good sound advice or maybe even a piece of safety equipment he can use when he decides to boat again.
Eric says he fishes for whatever the salt has to offer including kings, spanish, wahoo, tuna, grouper, snapper, reds, etc.
You do not have to post your donation effort here, that is optional. If you want to PM me or e-mail me at akelliott@charter.net what you gave so I can track duplicates or ask for suggestions feel free to do so. Below is Eric’s home address. Tight lines.

Eric,
I have a rod and reel for you!
Give me a shout and let me know where to drop it at.
I will also throw in a year of Seaview for next season when spring rolls around.

jawbreaker, that is quite a generous offer that I surely could use. Don't presently have one so could definitely make use |

Dave, I am trying my best to put a trip together for this weekend, as long as the weather stays as predicted so I will be in Morehead if you will be around there |

I don't have much of anything anyone would want as far as fishing stuff but own a trophy, plaque and sign shop. If you would like I would donate a nice plaque to present at the time of the donation. Also for Joe's rod and reel, I can engrave a plate or something to be displayed with it. Just let me know what I can do to help. 910-892-6722 if you call ask for me, John. _________________ "Many men go fishing their entire lives without knowing it is not fish they are after". Eric, sorry about your loss. I'm also glad it turned out ok for the rest of the crew. When you are ready to fish again, perhaps I can offer you a ride out until you can get another boat. I live about 16 miles from your door (in Selma).
Take care.

| Just wanted to give a shout out to Candyman who donated tackle on the original thread. Very nice gesture and I'm sure they really appreaciate it. |

Eric, I've got a tackle bag and a storage bag/backpack style that goes on the back of a chair if your interest. I used them on our old boat and don't need them on the new one. Let me know. _________________

A boating safety course is always a good idea for anyone, and in some cases mandatory. The Morehead City USCG Auxiliary Flotilla 20-02 offers some great classes and I would recommend them to anyone. Ben Crabtree heads this up and is very committed to boating safety and teaching others. The Local knowledge class is also very intersting. This link is for the 2011 classes which have all passed, they will offer new dates for 2012 soon. These are one day sessions on Saturdays held at Carteret CC.
