That is if you are a Tuna fish man what a day! It started yeterday afternoon I spoke with my Charter for the 2nd time & said it was going to be way rough but they wanted to give it a shot anyway so we discussed how bad it would be 7 they still wanted to give it a shot so I said see you in the AM. Went to the boat late last night just to make sure everything is in order not very excited about going but this is a good customer that has gone several times so the least we could do is try & show them a good time. Busted out the inlet about 5:20 & for once the weather man was right it was BLOWING it butt off but we plowed on out set the lines out 8 miles off the beach it was just starting to get Pink in the East & BAM the line started screaming. It was on now managed to get everything cleared & started backing down because this fish was leaving from here fast. Water was washing over the stern hard I had one of the guys climb in the Bridge to get to higher ground he was video taping all at the same time. The fight lasted about 30 minutes until we were up & down on him which took another 30 minutes to get him up it was tough trying to control the boat in the conditions we had but we finaly had a glimpse at him & then he started to go down again but Rick realy put the heat on him then & said no way & then he finaly got the leader on him & manged to stick the POON in him & the rest is history. A 88 inch slob on the deck & back before 9:00. I am sure Rick will chime in & give his vesion of the battle when he gets online. Anyway I was glad we went & happy to have such a nice fish on such a tough day. I will get video & pics up as soon as I recieve them. Did I mention it was kinda snotty? _________________ Capt. Shane

Thanks alot Ya'll. The begining of the season I told Shane I think we are going to get 10 this year. He called me last night to let me know the gang still wanted to go. I told him, "You know, we are going to catch a fish don't you". That would be just enough to keep us going out for a few more trips. He pretty well covered it. The gang and I were talking about what a beautiful sunrise it was going to be and what a nice day it was so far. I had no more said, " the only thing that could make it better would to be reeling a BFT in during the sunrise", when the lt planer started to scream. I had briefed them on what to do when we get a fish on, grab a reel that isn't screaming and crank. They were all over it. We were in a following sea and I was trying to trip the deep planer, we were drifting too fast and it wouldn't trip. I looked back at the rod and the line was limp. I cranked up the slack and he was still there, when he felt the pull he turned and started ripping again, ok, get the planers up. About that time the rod tip popped up and line went limp again. Back on the reel and cranked in about 100yds. This is where I made my mistake, a very common mistake that I've heard of numerous times. I didn't finish cranking it in. Anyway the crew had stopped cranking the mess in and I was headed over to drop the other planer back down when Shane hollers, "he is still there" the fish had spun around so fast I thought the line had broke and was passing us on the stbd side. What a battle in a sporty sea, Shane kept us right where we needed to be, rock and roll partner. We've been lucky enough to get 8 out of 12 this year and I am very happy with that. _________________ Capt Rick Evans

I'm one of the group that convinced Shane that we were crazy enough to fish on Saturday even though we knew we were in for a rough day but we had a feeling that a BFT was ours. IT WAS COLD & ROUGH but IT PAID OFF! I haven't reeled a big one like that in a long time. Reminds me of my days in Puerto Rico(my Home).
Out at 0530, in by 1000 and fish to boot, what a day. THANKS to Shane and Rick. We will be back in spring and if the BFT show up heavy, we will be there overnight. |

Interpreter, you're a prteey quiet guy but you sure can handle a giant! You did an outstaiding job on the reel and handling the fish. I'd love to do some fishing in your home land. Look forward to seeing you in the spring, YFT, Wahoo and bills baby! _________________ Capt Rick Evans
