Looks like something is more important than Lockwood. They moved the dredge schedule back 2 weeks until April 16th. Looks like I am going to have to cancel a few trips now.

Is Lockwood's Folly Passable in a 31' center console? From the way it sounds it is not.

First trip down planned for next week, wondering if i should plan a detour to southport.

Thank you.

How about Shallote Inlet? Can any comment on its low tide condition?

If I was you I would plan on going out of Southport. Lockwood is passable at high tide and if you can read the channel( No markers). If it is a SW wind i wouldn't go near it until they dredge it. Too tough to read and not much room for error.

Its a mouse trap for sure and always has been. Did a test run last week and saw 3.5ft at shallowest point on midtide. So its possible and not too bad on a calm day. Like Ryan said on a sw wind swell it could be hairy. The inlet seemed to be holding its same channel that it had last summer if you still have those buoy #'s.

Good luck,

This is supposed to be Mar 26/27's survey, it looks like it is staying about the same, skinny and not much fun.

Thanks guys, i still have the numbers/waypoints and routes stored from last year.

I figured i would take a look at high tide, with wind/waves permitting. But will probably use Southport, 30 gallons of fuel over a week is a whole lot cheaper that a lower unit or even worse.....

Does anyone know when they are going to dredge Lockwood? It is a long run to Cape Fear.

Thanks maybe it will be done before the holiday.

I am sure the boat will go through now but I would hate to mess up the new motor.

Does anyone know the status of the dredging at Lockwood Folly Inlet? Have the buoys been replaced yet?

USACOE will probably publish a depth survey with suggested route centerline waypoints before buoys are actually placed. This is the latest, and ain't looking too good, in my opinion, but there's now a danger buoy beside Bendigo, so that's something ...

My understanding is they had to pull out early and head up to Hatteras to address the ferry channel issue. Was told by the Army Corps they plan to survey and determine if they have to come back or head to Topsail, where they were supposed to be today.

The survey from the 9th would seem to make that decision a no-brainer. 4' at mean low water makes the inlet pretty much a high water deal (with calm winds, at that ... Shocked

looks narrow and skinny, not much to show for, any idea what this dredging cost, Merritt set tied to the dock more this time than they actually dredged? If they were going to put a danger bouy on Bendigo why wouldn't they go ahead and attach one to the Iron Age?

I got thru it on Friday at dead low tide and Saturday not far off of it. Lowest I saw was 4ft. It is not even close to where the old run thru the cans was. If you are not familiar with it I wouldn't use it until it is marked, the current run is a few hundred feet to the West of the old one.

There is no reason to mark the Iron Age because it is so far out of the new channel that it doesn't matter, but the Bendigo is right next the channel and at mid to high water someone could easily hit it.

Don't know how long it will hold but it is passable, now we have to wait for the CG to put the cans back.

I came through dead low saturday right over 1 of my marks and hit bottom, there was a 30' + donzi fighting to get in too. He had a guy in the water trying to find a path! I guess I need to find a new path! Hope those cans go in soon!

If you are going out the wreck should now be to your immediate left, used to be on the right about 20 yards out of the channel.
