|
|
Just curious, I read a report that mentioned it had happened to several boats on thursday 3/15 near the sameole area.
If anyone on here was one of those boarded boats and feels like talking about it, I am curious as to what they were up to, looking for, what was their protocol during the boarding.
Never heard of this happening in that area and it seemed kind of odd to me, was it just random or something that will become as normal as getting checked in the ICW. Obviously all they have to do is read here to find the buzz about where the boats will be fishing.
Thx guys _________________ TOTAL CHAOS

| They can board you at anytime, they only ask as a courtesy. I have been boarded in the waterway out to 35m. |

I've been boarded a few times in that area. Especially near the MPA. _________________ Capt. John Mallette

As a former Coastie, and without getting all legal terms, They have the legal right to board Any US vessel, Any where. They have more Jurisdiction and Authority than most if not all Law Enforcement groups. They have concurrent jurisdiction with ATF, DEA, DOT, NMFS |

87 ft patrol boat out there right often. Talked to them several times, but never boarded.
eyefish is right, they do have the right to stop/board, and inspect you.
Really kind of a good feeling to see them out there, that far from shore. |

Here's a gig Amen to that. Never sorry to see them around. Wish they were out there more often. They do a fantastic job! _________________ "It's not what you gather but what you scatter that makes life meaningful" |

Marine Protected Area. Basically you can troll and jig, just no bottom fishing the area. _________________ Capt. John Mallette

We were boarded at the same ole that day. The crew was very professional and courteous. They spent about 45 mins on our boat discussing everything from fishing to safety. They checked our fish and safety equipment, boat registration etc.. I think they worked there way around to each boat. While on our vessel a whale came up and was going balistic. We all got a good show out of it. There were a few t storms off shore that day and I was glad to have the cutter out there in the area in case things got harry. It was the Block Island CG Vessel out of Atlantic Beach. Not long after they got off our boat we caught a really nice wahoo...... _________________ Capt Cane Faircloth

I was boarded, the Coasties were very polite and professional. They first asked when the last time I was boarded, I answered over 4 years ago. They requested permission to board for safety inspection, I agreed. They were very thorough and found not only my registration was overdue; but also my flares were expired. They gave me a written warning and left the vessel. overall a good experience, they did not seem to have any other agenda.

If I'm gonna put a hoo in the box after they board me, then they can just follow me out and board me every 40 minutes or so. Not that I'm superstitious!
My feelings are if your not in the wrong then you have nothing to worry about. |

That sounds good. I certainly don't mind seeing the good guys out there.
Was out there today and they were not there, it was nasty out there so I can't blame them! _________________ TOTAL CHAOS
