Just upgraded the SeaHunt to a Lowrance HDS8 and was thinking about putting weather radar on there. Do any of you have anything with this unit?

Just wondering what service I should get and if it's worth it. Sure would be nice to see those summer storms coming....

I have the hds 10. I also have sirius weather and radio. You need to buy
Lwx-1 ( I think that's what it's called, about 200 bucks)

The Sirius weather plan is 29 and extra 10 for radio. It shows sea surface temps, wind direction, and speed as well as storms. Still trying to get the hang of it but it's pretty cool. Was fishing with midnight a month or so back and saw a major storm blowing across Wilmington, we knew to stay out till it blew past and would have had plenty of time to avoid it if it had blew offshore!

Can you drop the service through the off season with out a penalty?

I pay monthly, and can cancel anytime. I'll drop service in winter and pick it up again in spring... I think I'll pay another 30 service fee to turn it on again. Not sure on the fee.

The weather service is worth it. It really comes in handy to be able to see storms 50 miles in shore and know which direction they are headed. You can zoom out and see weather anywhere in the Country.

Very well worth it. Sirius offers packages to cover fishing season so you don't have to pay year round if you don't fish in winter. I have HDS8 as well. You won't regret it.

I just bought the receiver for it (LWX-1) on Cabelas website and paid $99 for it, and that comes with a $99 mail in rebate.

Not sure if the deal is still going on, but its definitely worth checking out.

Just pulled the trigger on the receiver myself. Hard to pass up with that rebate.

Which package did you get Grouper? I'm seeing Inland Marine, etc..
