| I have read in various articles that NTI was scheduled to be dredged by end of March... Does anyone know if it has been done? I also read that New River Inlet is scehduled Apr 1-14. Hope that works out well with upcoming BonitO season. |

As of this past Sunday, they had not yet started. The inner channel to get to the inlet is still to shallow to cross in anything larger than a 23ish boat at mid-high tide. Once you get to the actual inlet channel, it has opened up considerable over the winter. It is narrow, but deep enought; 5+ feet deep at low tide.
Hopefully we will get some movement on this issue soon. There is a town sponsored dredging/beach re-nouishment operation working its way towards the inlet to punch through the inner channel. Hopefully that will be done within the next 10 days or so. |

The dredge Merritt is scheduled to be there April 19-30th if the inner work is complete. From what I was told by the Army Corps they do not want to dredge the bar until the beach re-nourishment is complete in case a nor'easter hits and all the sand comes down the beach and into the dredged bar area.
Once the dredging is complete, they will have to survey and then there will be the issue of replacing the buoys, which belongs to the Coast Guard. The buoy tender captain ran aground 2 years ago and said he was never coming back after he bent a shaft on his vessel coming through the back bay.
Let's hope that all of the schedules hold true. We need an inlet to use. _________________ SeaHunter 35 CC

| Came in today from catching Spanish with the kids and the dredge was running at New Topsail Inlet. We had a blast surfing in my 24' Triton LTS. Can't wait for the BSB to open June 1. They are really thick on several near shore hard bottoms. |

| The Merritt showed up at Topsail Friday afternoon. I stopped by and talked to the crew, who said they could be there up to 22 days. They said they plan to make the inlet 8 ft deep all the way through... |
