| I was sitting on the deck a few weeks ago at the Cape Fear restaurant in South Port. When people started pointing at a fish in the grass that had landed about thirty feet from the sea wall. It was no doubt a flying fish I just always thought they stayed off shore this had glided from the river / ICW. Was this a strange event or not that uncommon. It was about 7" so not to juvenile. |

| A friend of mine at Holden Beach said he caught some in the Shallotte River area last week. He's not one to lie about something like this, but for me I made 2 runs last week past the 22 mile mark and haven't seen one yet. Normally if I see some I stop, and put out baits and 10 foot from the boat a big king hits. One of those important signs to look for. |

If you guys are running out... how many flyers does it take to make you stop? In other words, if I see one every once in awhile, keep riding... or if theres 3 or 4 that get up , stop? I understand, the more the better...
A few weeks ago I stirred up one and we were prolly only 10 miles out (65'), thats the closest I've seen em.
I've often wondered when I should stop when I see one/some.. take care. _________________ Freedom Boat Club Member

Normally they will be at least a half dozen get up and fly. 7 out of 10 times this happens a king has hit withen 10 feet of the boat while feeding out line.
I have to stop now when I see them. |

| I worked at Southport Marina for a few summers. I saw one swim out from underneath a boat one day. No one believed me but who cares!! It was a big one too! |

I've caught a few juveniles before in the waterway.
I have always heard if they are jumping out of the way of the boat it's one thing.... but if you see them off to the side jumping you need to stop and fish because they only jump out of the water 1) to get out of the way of a boat or 2) if something is chasing them.
That being said, in my limited experience, if I see a bunch of them and the water looks good and there's any structure at all nearby, I'll stop and fish. _________________ 24 Seahunt 250 Yamaha Holden Beach/Albemarle NC |

| Did some biological studies in the early 80's and we caught one in a gill net about 2 miles below Wilmington in the Cape Fear. |
