Guys, we may be in store for the first nice weekend in some time. The long-range models are indicating a warm high may nudge in from the Atlantic, far enough west to allow a moderate southwest wind diminish to a light southerly wind by Saturday and continuing into next week. This may be a good shot to jump on any hungry yellowfin. I'm going to try to go, especially if my Wolfpack continue to play like they have the last few weeks. If my brother-in-law does not go I'll be looking to help someone out crew and money-wise. Rob

Where are you going out from? I'm trying to get my crew together as well. It would be nice to go to the stream with some other boats around.

Rob, I'd love to jump on board and help out with expenses. But, I quess I need some help reading "Reef Cast". To me it looks like the model is calling for 10' waves and 7 sec. period for this Sat. @ WR-4. Please explain!
Thanks,

I hope he is correct too. My old man is itching to get back onto the water with us. As of right now, the wind is howling outside my windows and the trees are bending slightly askew in it, matching the increasing wind as the reef-cast model has perdicted. We'll keep an eye on it and hoping for slick seas Sunday.

We'll now that I got you excited, things have changed. Sat and Sun don't not look as good, but probably fishable, especially Sun. It appears that a few small disturbances will propagate from the Plains to Great Lakes and Northeast. As these approach they will kick up a SW wind. The timining of these systems are troublesome for models. I'll have a better feel of the situation by tomorrow. A positive is that the warmer than normal weather over the next week may contribute to an earlier start to the fishing season. Backwater fishing may be very good this weekend.

This weekend may turn out ok, but as mentioned yesterday this type of weather pattern is tough for extended models to handle in terms of timing, becuase the weather systems are moving rapidly across the country. The current forecast is for a a system to approach from the west on Friday and kick up a pretty strong SW wind, probably on the order of 20-22 kt mid-day Fri with the contribution of seabreeze. A line of storms will push through later Friday evening with the front. This should halt the strong SW wind. The front is more of a wind shift and not one of those that bring cold air south. Friday night offshore wind should pretty much die out. However, there should still be a southerly swell with some smaller residual chop in the morning from the strong SW wind on Friday. The good news is that offshore the seas should get better and better throughout the day. There will be a moderate to strong sea breeze out to 15 nm, but should not affect things offshore. Actually, the seabreeze nearshore usually causes an area of much calmer winds well offshore. Sunday could be a good day as well, but another disturbance will approach late Sunday and cause the SW wind to increase once again.

I probably won't make my decision until Friday afternoon.

We'll not much of a change this morning in terms of marine conditions on Sat. As mentioned in the previous forecast, there could be a residual southerly swell and some shorter period waves (3-5 ft offshore), but conditions should improve as the day progresses so that by the afternoon we'd be looking at 5-7 kt SSE to SSW winds and seas 3 ft but smooth. ReefCast and WaveCast pretty much support this opinion.

I'll issue these as much as I have time, but I get more motivated when I'm planning on fishing :-)

Coast, Weather Underground is painting an equally rosy picture for Sunday with temps in the mid to upper 70s and seas 2 to 4. I maybe heading out to the tower if these perdicted conditions continue. Anyone else heading out to the tower I can catch up with once we are out there?

It looks very fishable at this point fellas but I do not think amanda wants to come out and play with there being nearly 3 foot seas. She has not as of yet obtained her full set of sea legs I am afraid. As of yet it is a toss up between WR4 and some local bottom areas or the Tower for some Kings. I am still waiting for some better news to be honest or to see if anything drastically changes.

Go ahead and string me up for a beating :-)

I'm not so confident on either days. It should be fishable especially if your young and have strong joint, or if your jonesing and want to work for it. My gut tells me the wind will remain SSW for the most part both Sat and Sun, even though some models lighten the wind up more mid-day Sat. The main thing I'm looking at is the wind further south and east of our offshore waters. There is a decent fetch of 12-18 kt wind well to our south which will keep a steady flow of 3-5 ft 5-8 sec period wave training towards our Gulfstream. Sorry for being a tease.

Not my best for sure. I think Sat forecast was ok, but it was not bad on Sun, especially over the mid-shore waters. I posted a fishing report in the other forum.

Rob,

You were spot on for the winds mid-shore, I noticed on the ride in from about 40 miles out the wind was kicking 15 kts.+ in the 10 to 40 mile range it was quite pleasant with light winds, once you got to 10 miles out the winds picked back up and kicked the seas back up a little. I still hate that 50 mile run from Bogue to the Hole, its not very often when its nice all the way out and back. We hope to hit Oregon Inlet next week and pray good weather and good fishing, thanks for all you do to make it easier for all of us heading offshore! :D
