May fishing turns on fast. Water temperatures increase rapidly during May which triggers mass movements of fish. The trout are being caught closer to the inlet and have been consistent in the creeks. I prefer the first hour of the falling tide. Throwing a mud minnow on a float or Carolina rigged against grassy banks works great. Trout cruise these edges as bait drains out.
Redfish have been all along the ICW close to docks. Casting plastic jigs, and shrimp up current in 4-6 feet of water mid way through any tide has produced reds.
The flounder have been undersized so far, but the upcoming mullet migration will bring the larger ones into Little River. Little River inlet is deep. The larger flounder tend to come in later in June. The shallow inlets; like, Hog and Tubbs, are best for Flounder during early summer.
Tons of spots, whiting, and croaker around creek mouths on cut bait. Also, I have caught some nice black drum (20â€-24â€) on ebb tides with cut bait in the creeks. Don’t forget to use fresh line and sharpen those hooks.
