Went out yesterday on my skiff during the lunar low tide to do some inshore scouting and made it a point to go see this wreck in the inlet. I have used this inlet many times and today was the first day that I got a good look at it. The wreck is closer to the figure eight side of the channel and was much larger than I thought. It is definitely something that should be watched for when using the inlet as it could really mess up a boat. _________________ "Life's Good"

Wes,
shoulda got some pics! My dad decided that topsail is the inlet for us! haha. They should mark the wreck with a buoy or some sort of marker other than hitting it and realizing its there as your sinking... _________________ 2009 14\' Voyager Jonboat

How's the water at low tide?
I'm staying in Porter's neck this weekend and Riches is a lot closer than Masonboro...
Doubt I'll need to use it though - the wind follows me everywhere....
Wouldn't mind finding that wreck though - looks pretty neat... |

The water is not great at low tide. The sandbars have kind of closed the mouth of the inlet. I'm not sure of the exact depth but you need to be very careful.
On a positive note, the water near the wreck is probably 12ft at dead low tide. Just be careful as you approach it. Have Fun! |
