Hit the flats Saturday morning and was greeted to slick calm water, a very light breeze and schooling Redfish. I knew it was going to be a short trip with the high tide coming at 0500 and a near new moon, the water was going to fall out fast, and it did.
Started fishing about 0730 and saw the Redfish waking ahead of me. They were moving away and rather than try to chase them down, I decide to stick to my regular tatics and wait for them to come back.
I kept working the grass line and soon hooked up with a small Redfish. OK, one in the boat, now I've got the skunk out. Continued working down the bank and soon I saw the school coming right at me. There must have been 25-50, 5-7lb redfish in the school. Cast my bucktail jig tipped with a curly tail Berkley Gulp and bam, fish on!!! of course, immediately the school bolted, but soon I had the fish in the boat. I got on the school two more times and caught two more fish before the ebbing tide forced me out of the skinny water. Who says theres no fish to be caught in February!!
Let's go fishing!!!
