The redfishing action is becoming a bit more consistent with the warm water. We have warm water temps for this time of year and the fish are feeding well. Thursday, Mark (Fishstalkers) and I went out for a few hours on a scouting mission. The wind was nice and calm and we saw a few fish on the flats but not the numbers we are used to seeing. After spending a hour on the flats we moved to a few ledges and points and we were instantly greeted by some nice redfish. The redfish bit on Berkley Gulp! jerk baits as usual. The redfish seem to have moved into more of a summer pattern and are bit more scattered around in smaller schools. It is almost time to break out the spinner baits and top waters! We also spotted live mullet and POGYS! It wont be long until we have the caravans of live bait coming if the weather stays warm.

Friday, We spent a half day on the water and caught a few nice reds on the ledges and creek mouths near southport and in the cape fear river. We had 6 redfish but all were smaller and were very aggressive.
These little guys were a blast on light tackle. Speaking of light tackle... I have just finished building 2 extreme ultra light rods. These rods are basically 4-6 lb freshwater rods built to handle the saltwater environment. We are going to put them to good use on some over the slot reds and even some SMALL king mackerel. They will be spooled with 8lb spider wire and the reels will be the new Okuma VS 2000's with a 5 year warranty! King fishing is right around the corner and they will be in CLOSE very soon. Give us a call to expierence ultra light fishing like never before! Dont wait to read about it, come and do it!
