|
|
So I picked up my Lowrance HDS-5 today (haven't even read the install manual yet so forgive me if I say something that is in there - going to read it tonight) and am preparing to do the remove and replace on my current Eagle GPS/sonar combo. The HDS-5 is going in the same spot as the existing unit. Therefore I am assuming this is going to be as simple as joining the new cables (power and transducer) to the old ones and using them to pull the new cables through my access areas and t-top tubing. I feel confident in saying that Murphy will not allow this to go this smoothly though... Am I missing something here?
Also, I'm sure that the new mounting bracket for the transducer and the head unit itself will not fit in the existing holes. What is the best means for sealing the old transducer holes (below waterline) and the holes in the console where the old mounting bracket and the old external antenna are?
If I am crazy for trying this someone please don't be afraid to say so - like, is sealing the holes below the waterline something for only the experienced professional? Or, if there is a chance the new transducer won't function properly in the old transducer location.
Thanks in advance! |

| i just did this myself, and i used marine sealant to cover the holes. the main thing is making sure your transducer is mounted properly, other than that ,once you get your cables ran, its pretty easy from there. |

| use 5200 in the old holes and then put the old screws back in if they wont interfere with the new transducer mount. i like to use silicone in the screw holes when mounting a new transducer, that way if you have to move it, it wont take an act of congress to remove it. |

IT IS EASY JUST BE SURE WHEN YOU PULL THE NEW WIERS WITH THE OLD YOU SECURE THEM TOGETHER REAL GOOD SO THEY DONT COME APART HALF WAY THROUGH THE PULL. IT IS SOMETIME EASIER WITH TWO PEOPLE ON THE PULL ASO WHILE YOU PULL THE OTHER CAN WIGGLE THE OTHER END. CAUSE CHANCES ARE IT WILL HIT SOMETHING GAS TANK OTHER WIREING ECT. GOOD LUCK _________________ 2009 NauticStar 22' cc (Good Times) usually can be found around Wrightsville Beach that is where I was born and raised. Now live in Youngsville,N.C. Gary Green |
