I have a pretty simple question.
I have my livewell in the front of my CC, for some reason who ever rigged this ran the overspill to the bilge tank in the rear of the boat?? Now when my livewell is running the water just drains to the back of the boat, and without running the bilge constantly the water ends up filling up the bilge tank and runs all over the boat.
I want to hook up a hose to the existing PVC drain, and run it out the back of the boat. I know I will have to drill through and I'm ok with that. What Im most concerned about is where the hole is.
Im not a 100% sure, but Im pretty sure the hole will be below the water line. When I run the water out, do I need the plumbing to turn down?? I've heard that it should turn down or it water will run back into the boat.
The water leaving the boat from the Livewell is NOT pressurized, its simply overflowing into the tube. |

I rigged up a round portable live well in my boat because the one built in wasn't big enough to hold many pogies and keep them alive when it gets hot. I ran the overflow out through one of the scuppers and it works very well. you may be able to tee into yours and do the same thing _________________ David Tedder

Water will seek its own level. If you have a live well that sits in the boat and a hose running under the water, the water will run out, regardless of whether the hose is above or below the waterline.
Whether or not the line turns down is not relevant. Unless there is some sort of back flow associated with your motors that would force the water back into the drain line |

Just so I make sure I understand you..
The water (from outside the boat) will not run back into the drain line, and the pressure from the water (outside the boat) will not prevent the water from draining out of my boat? |

Sounds like a good idea, but I dont think mine is set up to work like that. The existing drain is going to the bottom of the bilge tank. My scuppers are on each corner of the boat, which is about 12" higher than where the line ends. I would have to T off and then run hose vertically. |

| As long as the outlet of the hose is lower than the waterline in the live well, it will still drain. It doest matter if the line runs straight back up through the deck and out the scupper. It will run out of the scupper. This is what I meant by "Water seeks its own level" The water will try to equalize the level in the drain line and the live well. So if the line opening is lower than the level in the live well it will run out. |

| Also make sure to give your drain proper fall towards your discharge area( i.e. 1/4 inch per foot) of pipe to help against clogging of your drain and to assure proper flow. |
