Former Kure Beach Mayor Mac Montgomery, who is a member of the Occupy Wilmington NC Facebook page, said he is unable to attend the General Assembly meeting but wanted to give support to the movement and encourage others to get involved.

Yes he's "former" Mayor but its all the same. When the present Mayor speaks out against these Communist, then maybe I'll fish the "pipe" again.

They want to exercise their right of freedom of speech & your upset ?
There are people losing their homes, their life savings & your worried about fishing ?

Where is your passion & caring for your neighbors or would you rather I refer to them all as Communist ?

Things are seriously wrong in the world & your not going to ever fish the "pipe" again. I really don't think you will be missed.
Have a nice day ....... ICM

I wouldn't quit fishing anywhere b/c of a former mayor. Folks do have a right to gather and speak peacefully. I watched some of the interviews of the folks in NY and LA last weekend and early week. It sounded like a bunch of socialist /communists plus the unions are getting involved. Oh well, here's to peaceful gatherings....I hope.

Not familiar with the guy but is he speaking as a mayor for the whole town or is he speaking as an individual who has a right to express his own freedom of speech?

Or at least they let us think that we have a say. I'm starting to think that no matter how we vote, "they" elect & do as "they" please anyway. Our last presidential election started that belief for me...

The only people I can thank in our government are the men & women in our armed services. And to ALL of you, from the bottom of my heart, I can't thank you enough for everything you do to keep us free.

I've got it now, the Tea Party holds numerous rallys with signs, speakers, and a definable agenda, and tough questions and they get vilified by dimocrats and the press (I believe Pelosi called 'em 'astroturf'). A group of malcontents hold a sleep in, pay hispanics to hold signs they can't read, openly advocate anarchy, and make fools of themselves when interviewed by a fawning press, and it's free speech in action. Not to mention Nancy Pelosi seeming to wet herself over it all.

We've already seen how quick the whining starts when confronted with police officers they can't intimidate. Can't wait to see the how strong the commitment is when it's 40 degrees and raining on the Occupy Wall Street bunch. ...

Freedom of speech allows these wanna be hippies to waste their time and our public resources as they promote socialism. I don't believe many of those starbuck sippin' pseudohippies were standing along side fisherman when we were protesting Magnuson in DC. They promote government control, extreme environmentalism, redistribution of wealth, and all the other touchy feely socialist crap that is driving Europe down the financial drain.

Hippies are back in vogue, they just look different, still are trying to piss off their parents, carry I-phones, smell a bit better, and tend to leave their Asian made clothes on. :D

Sorry ICM, I dont buy it. These people are aligning with Occupy WallStreet. To me that means they want to destroy capitalism and the American way of life. Yes, people are losing their homes but this protest has nothing to do with that. What do you suggest the banks do? Refinance everybody? Stats show that of all the modifications done 60+ % are back in a default situation within months.

Occupy WallStreet formed with absolutely NO specific agenda to promote, that's the reason so many are drawn to it. The primary reason for the protest is because the wealthy aren't held to the same tax obligations the middle and lower class are. A billion dollar company like bank of America is granted a tax free year? Really? Do you not see the rich are getting richer and the rest of us are circling the drain? No wonder our economy is in the craper were circling in

I shouldn't touch this with a 10 ft surf rod but Procrastinator sums it up well. Barney Frank (head of the powerful Finance committee) and Nancy Pelosi (then House Spkr) made banks lower lending standards so that "every American can own a home" (socialism at it's best). There were few foreclosures prior to lowering these tried and true bank loan procedures. The list of foreclosures in Wilmington have evaporated, certainly not like 2 months ago at city hall. Fewer people are being forced out of their homes thank goodness. Yes many have lost life savings - it's not unique - remember the tech bubble burst of 2000? Or, more recently, Bernie Madoff's ponsi scheme?
Bank's and investor's cash are sitting on the sidelines. The European situation will worsen and prolong our recovery. What should you do? If you have cash, you can find a deal on a big ticket item. Or, you can just wait it out like the rest of us. :(

Yeah, that pretty evident. Never seen so many people wandering in the wilderness bitching about wherever suits their personal agenda ... :?

Too bad "former" President George Bush didn't say it. Then maybe you would have never surf fished in the USA again.

Change what is necessary ?

Before you get too cozy with these so called working class people coming together, maybe you should find out what they are really all about. They have a list of demands up on their website. Have you seen it? I suggest you do some research. http://occupywallst.org/forum/proposed-list-of-demands-for-occupy-wall-st-moveme/

Obama needs to rally his base. This "Protest" was planned months ago. These young people have been misled by statements like "the rich pay less taxes than a plumber, or teacher". This is a lie. The IRS tax code is clear, and it is progressive in that the percentage of income increases with earnings. You can go to their website and verify this. Did Exxon get money back? Yes, like a lot of corporations that pay taxes in advance. Then when they filed their annual returns, they showed that a lot of the money they made was in other countries and they had paid taxes in those countries. This is money that they have overpaid to the US in taxes... thus the refund. The POTUS knows that. Yet, he uses that specific example to rile up the impressionable base. It is his only way to circle the wagons. It was planned, George Soros is on board, the unions are now on board, and now the POTUS has acknowleged them and "has empathy" for them. He has also asked that they continue until after the 2012 elections. No, it is not about how bad Wall Street is, it is about getting Barack Heusein Obama (Mmm, Mmm, Mmm) re-elected. If it were about the money given to the banks and wall street, why not protest against the people that gave it to them, THE ADMISTRATION? This is like calling "PANTY RAID", and climbing the walls of the MEN'S DORM! Believe what you want... it's your right!

I hope you do know that the current mayor, Dean Lambeth, is more closely affiliated with the Tea Party, than the Democrats. If you don't believe it, then go ask him why they need a ban on thongs within the town limit beaches.

Did you ever think for a moment that the ideological rhetoric coming from Mac Montgomery is exactly why he is now the FORMER mayor of Kure Beach?

Laughable at best...

Demand one: Restoration of the living wage. This demand can only be met by ending "Freetrade" by re-imposing trade tariffs on all imported goods entering the American market to level the playing field for domestic family farming and domestic manufacturing as most nations that are dumping cheap products onto the American market have radical wage and environmental regulation advantages. Another policy that must be instituted is raise the minimum wage to twenty dollars an hr.

Demand two: Institute a universal single payer healthcare system. To do this all private insurers must be banned from the healthcare market as their only effect on the health of patients is to take money away from doctors, nurses and hospitals preventing them from doing their jobs and hand that money to wall st. investors.

Demand three: Guaranteed living wage income regardless of employment.

Demand four: Free college education.

Demand five: Begin a fast track process to bring the fossil fuel economy to an end while at the same bringing the alternative energy economy up to energy demand.

Demand six: One trillion dollars in infrastructure (Water, Sewer, Rail, Roads and Bridges and Electrical Grid) spending now.

Demand seven: One trillion dollars in ecological restoration planting forests, reestablishing wetlands and the natural flow of river systems and decommissioning of all of America's nuclear power plants.

Demand eight: Racial and gender equal rights amendment.

Demand nine: Open borders migration. anyone can travel anywhere to work and live.

Demand ten: Bring American elections up to international standards of a paper ballot precinct counted and recounted in front of an independent and party observers system.

Demand eleven: Immediate across the board debt forgiveness for all. Debt forgiveness of sovereign debt, commercial loans, home mortgages, home equity loans, credit card debt, student loans and personal loans now! All debt must be stricken from the "Books." World Bank Loans to all Nations, Bank to Bank Debt and all Bonds and Margin Call Debt in the stock market including all Derivatives or Credit Default Swaps, all 65 trillion dollars of them must also be stricken from the "Books." And I don't mean debt that is in default, I mean all debt on the entire planet period.

Demand twelve: Outlaw all credit reporting agencies.

Demand thirteen: Allow all workers to sign a ballot at any time during a union organizing campaign or at any time that represents their yeah or nay to having a union represent them in collective bargaining or to form a union.

You know what, all you "folks" that support these "occupy Wall Street" scum can kiss my ass. You've lost your mind if your going to start blaming big business and banks for the problems in this country. How many of you fucking liberal assholes have taken a loan out and had them offer you a good rate to buy that nice boat you have so you can fish and post on this site? Go ahead and scream that the banks make too much, that they dont hire enough people, Blah, Blah, Blah. Guess what, if they didnt do what they did, no of your asses wouldn't have that boat you fish on(unless you made your money the old fashioned way and ...well you know what comes next). The banking system in this country is not perfect but its not their fault employment is at 9.1 %, its not their fault we, as a country are 14+ trillion in dept( 4.4 trillion on Obama, think about that), its not their fault if your not rich. As a matter of fact I'd bet alot on here with nice boats used the banks to borrow money and expand their businesses to get the wealth the earned. Hmm, what do you libs say about that. Go ahead and try and make them "give you more" libs, watch what happens. No more fun stuff like fishing and buying boats. You libs are idiots.
