We are at the end of the Fall fishing season at Ocean Isle Beach NC and we had the best year ever. We started out in May winning the Grand Prize in the “Far Out Shootout” tournament. We caught a massive Wahoo and a fantastic Mahi Mahi that weighed more than any three fish anybody else caught.
We entered 3 tournaments with clients this year and showed in all of them. We caught 2 citation Spanish mackerel in the last three weeks. We bought in several sailfish, tuna, amberjack, cobia, wahoo and false albacore. The bottom fish are too varied to list, but we caught plenty. Scamp and gag grouper black sea bass, were the most prominent. Oh yea, the sharks were plentiful as well. We did catch a 12’ long Tiger that we gladly released.
Captain Brody Heath and mate John Bass did a superlative job all season. We are very proud to say that we caught a fish on every trip we took. That doesn’t happen every year.
We hope to go out after some Bluefin Tuna if they come our way this winter. Sometimes they show up and sometimes they don’t. (see newsflash below)
We have made some improvements to add to your fishing experience. They include a new anchor system that allows us to sit in top of a bountiful spot and haul ‘em in with manual and electric reels. We are using more live bait than we used to and have increased our catch rate significantly. We added a much better GPS/sounder/navigation system that gets us there much more quickly and accurately.
Planned improvements this winter include a much larger live-well for bait, replacing all the coaming bolsters on the aft deck (thigh high cushions) and we are having a new 22’ flats boat built for those clients who want to stay inshore and catch flounder, redfish and other estuary species. Great fun, and no waves. It is in the final design stage and should be built and ready by March. It will also be a much less expensive venture for you to enjoy.
We caught a 600+ lb. Bluefin tuna off Morehead City with client Rich Dobkin, the owner of Fibber McGee’s in Sunset Beach. Please call early to schedule your trip this year as we are expecting another great season.
